"Ohio is Like A Menopausal Woman"

That's what my friend told me today. She continued with, "She can't decide if she's hot or cold, wet or dry. It was 60 degrees this morning. Now it's 30 degrees and raining."

Now that's just hilarious!

Laughter is the Best Medicine

On a recent hospital visit (the details of that might be shared in another post), my husband was visited by the hospital clowns (and the therapy dog). This is what they left him (the clowns, not the dogs). It's about an inch long (at most).

I Think You're Beautiful.

My fabulous mother is a music therapist. She has a business where she contracts with local school districts to do pre-literacy through music with pre-k through 1st grades. It's always a good time working with children. They say the darnedest things!

Today my mom had just finished singing & signing a really cute song with a pre-school class about how wonderful & beautiful they are. At the end of the song my mom heard a little boy mutter, "I don't think you're beautiful."

I think that almost tops what a 3rd grader told me about 3 months ago while I was helping him with a reading assignment. He looked at my face real close then stated very seriously with a true concern in his voice, "Oh no, you are getting a little old. Not a lot but just a little because you are getting some wrinkles." He was pointing to the corner's of his eyes.

Yes, kids say the darnedest things!

Embarrassing Yet Funny

My little Sophia goes and plays at a friends house a couple days a week for about an hour and a half while I'm at work and Grandma has another commitment. Today, my friend shared a "funny" with me that my daughter said to her. I couldn't wait to share it with you...This friend of mine has 4 small children who all share a bathroom. It probably looks about as "awesome" (as she put it) as my kids' bathroom does. Today Sophia went into my friends' bathroom and came out right away exclaiming, "I'm alergic to stinky bathrooms".If that's the case, I either need to better train my kids on how often they need to clean their bathroom or take out stock in Benadryl.

Fashionista

I got a job this year working at my children's elementary school. I'm a Para-Educator which means I work one on one with a couple students who have IEP's. I also help out in the classrooms of the teachers of my assigned students. I have really been enjoying this new adventure & it has proven to produce many laughs as well.

Today a 4th grade girl looked me up and down when I walked in the room & she exclaimed "Miss Ginger, why are you so fashion today?" In fact, she wasn't the only student to compliment my more formal than usual attire.

I guess I should not do laundry more often since the reason I was "fashion" was that I had no clean casual pants. :)

Mom? Twice as Nice

I finally joined the Hi-Tech revolution and got myself a smart phone (even though I feel it was not so smart as it will double my monthly phone bill). Anyhoo, with my new "smart" device my 12 (almost 13) year old daughter, Audrey, inherited my old phone as a Christmas gift... let the texting begin! A bit to my surprise, my 7 year old son who was discussed in a previous post has taken quite a shine to my new toy. In fact, I'm pretty sure he spends more time on it than I do. He wears the battery down to pretty much nothing each night & when I can't find it, all I have to do is call my number and I usually find it in his hot little hands. A couple days ago during one of his hijacking moments he was texting Audrey which he does frequently. I was sittting on the couch next to him while his little fingers were busy finding the letters to make strange nonsense texts to his big sister when to his surprise he got an incoming text from "Mom". His wide eyes looked up quick at me and said, "MOM?". He knew he had my phone and that there was nothing in my hands. In a split second he realized that there was no way for me to send a text to myself when he had my phone. His confused demeanor made me snicker as I replied, "Yeah, MY Mom! You know, GiGi". "Oh" was his response. He flipped that over a few times in his little mind before he returned to his flying fingers and those oh so important text messages. That moment when you realize that your Mom has a Mom. Too funny!

Counting to 5? Easy as Pie!

A visual "treat" for my readers. I especially liked the concern on her face when she miscounted.

"Eye" Candy

Our trip to the eye doctor today proved to be a good chuckle.... I'll share.  My 7 year old son Carson got his first pair of glasses last year at this time so he was due back for his annual exam and today was the day.  Let me preface today's events with the past couple weeks.

I have been very impressed that Carson lasted his first year of glasses with no casualties on the frames or lenses.  I was especially surprised because a friend of mine had a horrible time with her son's first year with glasses (you know who you are).  Granted, we did have to make frequent trips to the office for a proper cleaning and adjustments, but other than that, they have survived quite well.  A couple weeks ago (a few days before Christmas break) Carson was not wearing his glasses very often.  I had known in the past he won't wear them when they are in need of an adjustment  but when asked this time, he didn't seem to think they were bent so I just told him he didn't need to wear them to school and we would take him over break for his annual exam to see if he needed a new prescription.  At the beginning of this week I asked him again if his frames needed adjusting and he said, "Yes, but they are fuzzy too".  As a mother, "fuzzy" meant that his vision is blurry when he looks through his lenses & he will be getting a new prescription by week's end.

Today when we arrived for the eye appointment I had the super nice lady who adjusts his frames regularly to do just that.  She dutifully took his glasses and came back a minute later, placing them on Carson's cute face.  To our delight Carson stated "A-ha!  They aren't fuzzy anymore!"  Apparently "fuzzy" means "dirty" not "my vision is blurry" (I took mental note).  He proceeded to the exam room with the Dr. and came out with a very minor change to his prescription.

Since he has taken pretty good care of his first pair of glasses we get to use those as a backup pair and we did order a new pair which will be in in about a week.  When the same lady asked Carson to come on back so she could measure him he replied, "Oh that's okay, last time we measured, I was 4 feet 2 inches."  The front office ladies and I had a good chuckle with that.  Sweet Carson :)

How the Sweetness Was Born...

The past couple years have been a bit rough for us as a family with many trials and much loss.  The inspiration for this blog came a few months ago when I was with my family at a church sponsored Fall fair.   As I looked at my 4 year old Sophia standing in line at her 856th booth that night at the fair I saw a beautiful (sometimes infuriating) child with both her pockets stuffed to overflowing with candy and prizes won at the previous 855 game booths.  She also had a Dum Dum lollipop sticking out of her crooked smile mouth.  That little moment became intimate for me as I couldn't help but feel so much joy for all the sweet experiences that have stood strong through all the sour ones that the past years have dealt us.  I began thinking that there are people just like me out there who might need a smile or a laugh to help them through the day.  Joy in this sometimes sour world can be found in the everyday activities of humankind.  There is sweetness to be shared and I'm going to do that.  I will bring you the pockets full of candy that put a smile on my face that Autumn night.

Happy New Year 2013!

Welcome to my blog.  Follow me this year as I share with you the things in life that make us laugh.  After all, one can never have too much laughter.
